When choosing a contract, always consider a few aspects such as:
- How many calls you make in a month and the duration of each phone call in conjunction with what times you make calls
- Whether it is affordable financially
- It is capable to call, text and connect to the internet at a good rate
- Is there a package deal
- Pre-paid or post-paid?
Contracts
When you first sign up to a mobile phone contract, you would usually be asked to choose a ‘cap’, which is the amount you pay each month to be able to make calls, send texts, browse through the internet and use other services that is offered through your phone. Something that has stereotypically occurred to many teen phone users, they go over their phone bill and that is something no one wants to go through. If it is possible, choose a cap which offers more calling and texting if that’s what you do often when using your phone. Most contracts last for either 12, 24 or 36 months. When you get a network connection, phone and a number of free calls, texts and downloads that are offered to your contracts. You as a customer pay an access charge, a flag charge which a connection fee and a charge which is based on how long your call lasts for.

It may be cheaper and more affordable to own a new handset through signing up to a package deal. These deals are offered by many retailers, phone shops or directly from network service providers. It’s important to know who you are contracted to, particularly if warranty repairs are needed or you have problems with the service you are connected with.
Prepaid and postpaid
Prepaid services are often mentioned to as the beginner’s pack and they usually provide you with a SIM card, limited number of call plans and a recharge card. When under a prepaid plan, the calling and texting rates are overall more expensive than post-paid plans but this can be easily changed so you can set yourself a monthly limit of how much you can use. The positive aspect to signing up to a prepaid plan is once the credit on the phone is used up, you can still receive calls and texts and use your phone normally but you can’t make calls or send text messages until the credit is topped up the month later. Now that’s a great way to avoid the long lectures your parents give you when your bill has gone over the roof!
Post-paid services are very similar to prepaid, you can make calls, text and browse through the internet, and however, it is quite risky with a post-paid service because of how easy it is to exceed the monthly costs. There are no limitations once your credit is used up, the additional charges will slowly add up, and so will your parent’s anger once they see that overpriced bill.

Recharge
Recharge cards are an effective way of avoiding that large phone bill and they usually lasted until a finishing day. After using all your credit on that recharge card, you will need to purchase a new recharge card. If you still have credit left after the day of expiration, they are then added to the new recharge card of the same name.
